Monsoon And Farmer’s Life

The most awaited season, rainy season has already stepped into our country .On the first of June monsoon arrived at south Kerala coast .Even though there is rainfall here and there we can see a vast fluctuation in this year’s showers .
The season of color has finally come .Children are seen floating around with their colorful umbrellas and office goers struggle to reach out in time.
Traffic jams, flooded lanes and children waddling in the floods are the common sights in the rainy season .And sometimes life comes to a standstill due to heavy showers.
But the most important among all, is the farmers life that revolves around the monsoon.
Rainy season is indeed a blessing for their lives .This is the most anticipated season by the farmers as this would decide the prime success of their lives, due to the rains which would decide the growth of their crops .There is an ecstasy in and around the farms and their reaction to the monsoon is more than justified.
A farmer always looks towards the sky.
He looks high with a hope that would fulfill his dreams of producing fruitful labor .As soon as he notices clouds appear in the sky, he rejoices along with his children and family.
The black clouds in the sky raise hopes, of a good rainfall.
Rain falls, the earth soaks in water, gets drenched, and the sweet aroma of mud flourishes all round the earth.
Trees and creepers are filled with new leaves. Flowers blossom on them. Sun plays hide-and-seek with the clouds. The sun shines through them and the gray clouds get multicolored .The boatmen ply their boats across the river. Peacocks dance in the woodland.
Due to the scorching heat of summer the dull plants, trees and surroundings fill with greenery and stand with full of life.
The mother earth shines in greenery, looks like a bride clothed in green, looking at all of this the farmer falls in love with the earth. He grabs his axe, bullock and heads towards the field .He sings songs of joy and ploughs the fields.
He works hard, sows the seeds without any expectations…without expecting any fruit he takes ultimate care of his crop.
By doing all this he becomes the backbone of his wife and children. Because of his labor and hard work today we have food on our table.
Where there is no rain there is no water, where there is no water there is no crop and where there is no crop that’s an end to a new life.
But while the farmer works he does not sense all these problems instead he keeps hope at his labor .
He does not even think of his future .But he finishes his day to day work with a passion and with a purpose of giving the best of all to us.
Even though he is financially not fit he goes to the bank for taking loans so that he could produce a good crop.
But most of the times due to heavy rains or lack of rains he loses his crop .This makes him more miserable. His financial status worsens day by day. And finally he ends up his life.

What do we give in return to this farmer of ours who is responsible for the food which is present on our table? The one and only source of backbone for his family is no more.
Their financial status gets still more worsened. And because of him our life goes on well. At times for all the goodness he provided us we fail to pay him the necessary price.
While the food grain prices rise due to famines we worry on how to eat and how to live. But do we recognize this farmers situation and offer a helping hand to him in his needs ?If government provides the  farmers with the right price for his crops, as well as help his children in getting higher education by providing them with various facilities ,by honoring farmers on Farmers day for their success by giving them free of interest loans and by providing them with the necessary facilities would definitely make their lives much more happier and would also help them in overcoming all the problems in their future .
Just as the saying goes “A farmer is our best friend” .If we follow this not only by words and even through deeds, then surely during his moment of calamities he will not become helpless but his life will be a fruitful one.
On the whole the blessings of the monsoons outshine it disadvantages. The entire life cycle on earth is connected to this season. Thus the coming of the monsoons heralds a message of life on earth; and the aroma of rain in air brings us back to life after the scorching heat of the summer.
